We, Stemettes, love great school trips. We get to run about 40 a year and especially enjoy the ones when we get to take pupils out of the school environment, into real world STEM ones. We did our very first school trip to fashion e-commerce giant ASOS on 5th March 2018 and had pupils from 3 London schools at their Camden HQ. The day kicked off with a tour of everything ASOS – from the stock room, to the photo studios to their tech teams and their canteen. We then got to know lots of their #womenintech – who worked […]

On 8th March 218 we hosted HRH Prince Harry and Ms Meghan Markle at our International Women’s Day event, so asked our attendees to take part in a competition to tell us about the women in STEM who inspire them. Here are the 3 winning submissions. Patience Sabiti “Do you know what a space gynaecologist is? No? Well neither did I until I read about Varsha Jain. The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is Press for Progress. Jastina, Decibel Insight If it wasn’t for the Stemettes and meeting my Sherpa I wouldn’t be here now! Jastina started the Student to Stemette Programme back in 2014 and was matched with Shannon Walker. Shannon was working as an Enterprise Architect at DB during the programme. Jastina now works for Decibel Insight in London. I first came across the programme through meeting Anne-Marie at a […]

This Wednesday (the 8th of March), the world will be celebrating International Women’s Day #IWD2017, asking the question will you #BeBoldForChange? Stemettes will of course, be boldly and proudly recognising all of the ‘STEMazing’ contributions made by women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM). The month of March is also ‘Women’s History Month’ – a chance for us all to celebrate women in STEM, from the past, present and future. A report released last week found that that young girls across Europe become interested in STEM subjects around 11 years old but lose interest by 15, so it’s important […]
