Stemettes took over The Gherkin in London and hosted a two-day hackathon in partnership with DXC Technology. We invited 50 girls to create their very own app!
The girls aged 5-22 learnt the basics of HTML and UX design. The girls used either Appshed, Appinventor and Glitch to build their apps and presented them to the judges.
Fantastic feedback included, one of our attendees declaring their love of ‘creating an entire project from scratch’.
- 94% of attendees would like to come again.
- The girls rated the event a 9.2 out of 10.
- 82% of attendees are interested in coding in the future.
- 100% of attendees stated their network in STEM improved.
Another one of our attendees explained ‘I’m not one to sit through talks and stuff. I prefer doing things. So I think this task, and then the fact that they provided lunch and things, it’s really nice’.
Congratulations to our People’s Choice winner’ Recycling plastic thing’ by Cia, our Judge’s Winner’ Share 2 Care’ by Muhammad, Nusaybah and Sahlah. A further congratulations to the team ‘Socialising Sisters’ who will present at a DXC conference in December!
We are very grateful to our partner DXC for this event and for their help in organising these other previous successful events:
