In 2022 Roche partnered with Stemettes to offer mentoring to 20 young women and non-binary people. In April, the 20 mentor and mentee pairs had completed two months of mentoring.
Mentoring pairs met fortnightly for one-to-one sessions where they worked on goals set by mentees. Goals ranged from developing soft skills to achieving professional certifications.
What do mentees think?
Mentees rated their experience 8.8 out of 10 and their mentorship pairings 9.02 out of 10.
Mentees set goals around decision making for the future, increasing awareness of opportunities, and building confidence. They feel that they have already achieved 52% of their goals on the programme.
Unexpected benefits of the programme so far have been the insight they have gained into future careers and the confidence they have gained in meeting new people.
“We’ve been talking about fortune career choices and pathways, looking at what degrees I might like to take at university, setting short and long term goals for myself.” – STS Mentee
What do mentors think?
Mentors rated their experience 7.81 out of 10.
So far, the mentors have gained motivation and a sense of fulfilment from the programme. They also felt it improved their mentorship and organisation skills.
“I have gained the joy of sharing life experiences and inspiring my mentee. I really like helping her come out of her shell and become more talkative, a skill especially important for her job interviews. I have definitely learned a lot about how to mentor” – STS Mentor
