Stemettes teamed up with BAE Systems on the 11th October to run a STEM Goals session with 45 girls. The girls learned HTML and used Glitch to make a website about cybersecurity.
Stemettes took over the Rise London offices on August 21st and 22nd 2019 for a hackathon. Rise, by Barclays, is the home of fintech (financial technology) and together we partnered for a hackathon theme titled ‘Using your money for good with the help of technology’. We hosted 58 girls (with some boys too) aged 5-22 to attend the hackathon, where they learnt how to build an app. Our young coders formed into three groups; Dough, Dollar and Dosh. Stemettes partnered with ITV on June 20th. We introduced a range of STEM activities to an enthusiastic group of young women. The girls put their programming skills to the test to create a website.
Mahek Vara was 16 years old when she began to code, and over the last two years, she has helped more than 78,000 children do the same. She saw that children who attended government schools in India were not receiving a 21st-century education; they were not learning digital skills and were not able to use a computer.
