On June 12th, Stemettes partnered with G-Research to host an exciting STEM Goals day for 32 young women at their London offices. We discussed all the different ways people begin their Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths related careers. The young women also got the chance to learn HTML, create websites and present their ideas. https://twitter.com/ArkPutney/status/1138741341540749312 Our panel consisted of four women and a ‘mystery man’ who are in the STEM industry: Jacinda Fahey – Head of Project and Programme Management Samantha Rouse – Software Development Manager Jennifer Byrne – COO of G Reserach Emily Adlam – Quantitative Researcher Dexter Lowe […]

This International Women’s Day, Stemettes spent the day at EDF Trading with 20 young women learning about Trading and building websites. The day kicked off with an icebreaker from EDF Trading, which taught the girls the basics of trading by having to trade fun items provided. We then went on a treasure hunt around EDF Trading offices in London and the girls visited the trading floor, where they got to see live Trading and realised it wasn’t like what they had seen in the films! Then during lunchtime, we got to meet loads of their #womeninSTEM, many who were Traders! […]

At Stemettes we love running school trips, especially when we get to take pupils out to visit real STEM environments. The day kicked off with an introduction to the fantastic panel: Mari-Ann Meling –Front End Developer, Treatwell Ella Hodge – Talent Acquisition Coordinator, BlackBerry Dr Renata Gomes – Head of Research and Innovation, Blind Veterans UK Trudie Fell – Head […]

We, Stemettes, love great school trips. We get to run about 40 a year and especially enjoy the ones when we get to take pupils out of the school environment, into real world STEM ones. We did our very first school trip to fashion e-commerce giant ASOS on 5th March 2018 and had pupils from 3 London schools at their Camden HQ. The day kicked off with a tour of everything ASOS – from the stock room, to the photo studios to their tech teams and their canteen. We then got to know lots of their #womenintech – who worked […]

After the success of Eat.Sleep.STEM.Repeat. earlier this year, we’ve been working on the next chapter in our Outbox Journey: our Stemillions STEM clubs. Inspiring young women is one thing. Empowering them to ‘be the change’ is another. It’s been a hard slog to create a streamlined way to do this in a way that makes sense for lots of types of young women. We’ve also been very keen to ensure that everyone involved still gets an authentic Stemette experience; complete with food & fun. This Summer, with our partners Accenture, Bank of America Merrill Lynch and Salesforce we ran our […]

This Wednesday (the 8th of March), the world will be celebrating International Women’s Day #IWD2017, asking the question will you #BeBoldForChange? Stemettes will of course, be boldly and proudly recognising all of the ‘STEMazing’ contributions made by women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM). The month of March is also ‘Women’s History Month’ – a chance for us all to celebrate women in STEM, from the past, present and future. A report released last week found that that young girls across Europe become interested in STEM subjects around 11 years old but lose interest by 15, so it’s important […]
