On Monday, we hosted a session for 60 attendees to follow along with our Stemillions Activity Pack (aka […]

Due to concerns over COVID-19, Stemettes will be postponing any physical events until mid-August. Health, Safety and Wellbeing for society, our community and our team is our top priority – alongside providing support for girls and nonbinary young people considering STEM careers. During this time, we’ll be running a series of online events for our community across the Stemette Society and our social channels for 12 weeks. The schedule is currently being compiled and will be released weekly here. We look forward to being able to keep you company – via Zoom, Google Hangouts and Instagram. We’ll also be running […]

On 8th March 218 we hosted HRH Prince Harry and Ms Meghan Markle at our International Women’s Day event, so asked our attendees to take part in a competition to tell us about the women in STEM who inspire them. Here are the 3 winning submissions. Patience Sabiti “Do you know what a space gynaecologist is? No? Well neither did I until I read about Varsha Jain. In my opinion she is probably the coolest kind of doctor in the world. Varsha Jain specialises in understanding how women’s bodies respond to living in space. For example, what happens when you […]

The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is Press for Progress. We’re been inspiring girls into STEM for more than 5 years, here are 5 of our young women, and parts of their Stemette journeys. Jastina, Decibel Insight If it wasn’t for the Stemettes and meeting my Sherpa I wouldn’t be here now! Jastina started the Student to Stemette Programme back in 2014 and was matched with Shannon Walker. Shannon was working as an Enterprise Architect at DB during the programme. Jastina now works for Decibel Insight in London. I first came across the programme through meeting Anne-Marie at a […]

Stemettes are proud to announce that Anne-Marie Imafidon, our ‘Head Stemette’ has been awarded an MBE for services to Young Women and STEM Sectors as part of the 2017 New Years Honours List, aged 27. Anne-Marie is our CEO and has led the Stemettes team since she launched the award-winning organisation back in February 2013 – to inspire and build up the pipeline of young women going into STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) careers, after discovering the falling numbers going into her industry. Anne-Marie said she was ‘surprised’ and ‘honoured’ to be included. “It’s a well done and thank […]

On 27th July 2015 history was made. The first ever Outbox Incubator – a pioneering incubator for young women from across Europe opened its doors to the first batch of 45 young entrepreneurs in a large house in South London. Billed as a cross between Dragons Den, The Apprentice and Big Brother, it was a first of its kind project run by award winning social enterprise Stemettes. We all felt a sense of excitement for what was about to happen. No-one knew the future, we all had expectations but what happened next was the stuff of legends. It’s been a […]

Caitlin, 15, is studying for her GCSEs and has chosen Computer Science and Triple Science as part of her options. She spent a week doing work experience with the Stemettes team in June 2016. I chose to find my placement myself, even though my school had offered alternatives. I was definitely glad of time I put in to research suitable companies. This wasn’t the typical type of work experience; there was no making tea or moments of boredom! I was always kept occupied with a number of exciting tasks such as searching for a suitable WordPress theme for one of […]

Eat. Sleep. STEM. Repeat! So… in true Stemettes fashion we have acted upon what we have learnt. How did we learn it? By listening to what the next generation of girls have been saying about what they think is missing from the world of STEM. We’ve been going for two years, and this is what the young women at our events, exhibitions and in schools have been saying they need but couldn’t find! They need STEM expertise advice and training. They want real career path advice. They want first hand experience. They want to meet other girls that are interested […]
