What I expected to be a boring summer stuck at home ended up being one of the best summers I’ve ever had! I took part in Sprint A and Sprint B of Stemettes’ Outbox 2020 Program and I had so much fun! I learnt all about cool new career paths that I could pursue in the future, and after listening to all the inspiring and influential role models, my horizon of STEM careers expanded exponentially. For the first 2 week of August, I joined a huge number of like-minded STEMettes on the Outbox 2020 programme. Each morning, we were joined by a number of STEMazing role models, who talked us through their journey into their industries, while others were based around important, relevant topics, such as the development of sustainable fuels to use in our homes and cars. These talks gave us all a great insight on how we ourselves […]

This post has been written by Eve who attended our Outbox 2020 programme that ran throughout August 2020. I’ve always been a do-er.  As a young child, my summer holidays were filled with Mad Science camps and extracurricular’s.  STEM club and Crest Awards filled my time after school.  The desire to try new things has never really left me. When I found out about Stemettes’ Outbox program, it was a no-brainer!  Two weeks of focused learning, meeting those in industry, and a Python qualification to round it all up.  The last time I had studied Python was in Year 6.  […]

I enjoyed meeting inspiring women in STEM, developing my Cybersecurity and Python skills and having a lot of fun. Every day during August, I had the incredible opportunity to spend the first half of my morning developing my skills or listening to role models in a variety of different fields, ranging from astrophysicists to cybersecurity experts to aerospace engineers and having my knowledge of STEM careers grow massively. Later in the morning, we worked towards […]

We celebrated our 7th birthday on 17th February at Rise London. The team celebrated alongside some familiar faces and introduced some new girls to the Stemettes life. Leading into the evening, we hosted an evening celebration at Google Campus for parents and partners. Both involved lots of cake and STEM celebrations! Stemettes Turns 7! @ Rise London © Paparazzi VIP Photography During the day we heard from some Stemettes Alumnae, they shared their STEM journey with the audience and how their relationship with Stemettes has impacted their careers. Our Head Stemette Dr Anne-Marie Imafidon MBE gave a keynote speech on […]

This post has been written by Eden, 8 who is at primary school and attended our ‘Stemettes Rise Hack #2‘ event on 22 & 23 August 2018. I am Eden and I am 8 years old. The first time I did coding was in school when I was 6 years old in Year 1. I used Purple Mash. At first I thought it was a scrumptious meal, or a beetroot with big feet stomping everywhere! That’s because I like cooking so food is always on my mind. Talking about food, in the summer holidays I did some gardening and planted some marrow peas, […]

Birthday Blog!

We can’t believe it either. Wednesday 12th February was the Stemettes’ one year anniversary, and we held our 1st Birthday Party on Saturday 15th Feb, as many of you will know! When people look at us aghast when we say it has only been a year since we launched in Google Campus on Pancake Day last year, we feel that same sense of shock inside of us; it’s only that we’ve repeated the phrase, and had opportunity for the same reaction, so many times that we no longer externalise it. And as Anne-Marie often says – no one is more […]
