Stemettes hosted a series of online events featuring inspirational talks about STEM at four different schools across the UK: Harris Girls’ Academy East Dulwich, Millburn Academy, North Ormesby Primary Academy, and Rushden Academy. The events were attended by 265 young people and non-binary persons, with 75% saying they want to take part in another Stemette event. In December, Stemettes and the Department for Transport hosted a two day Christmas event focussed on aerospace and science. It included a panel talk and activities for groups to design a product or business idea relating to aerospace, with the chance to present these ideas on the second day. The event consisted of three streams: 7 to 11, 12 to 15, and 16 to 18 year olds. On 26 November, the Department for Transport and Stemettes held an online panel discussion with women in aviation to increase awareness of this STEM career path. Seven amazing aviation role models joined in the discussion from industry, entrepreneurship and academia. 2670 young women and non-binary people joined across YouTube, Twitter or Facebook. With the pandemic leaving half-term holidays looking very different this year, Stemettes stepped in to put on 2020 October Explore. It was a free and fun-filled 3-week event, partnering with industries like cyber security, mining and insurance. Weeks one and two offered six online and Instagram Live sessions for Stemettes to learn something new, try activities and meet STEM role models. Each session was followed by speed networking. To celebrate Ada Lovelace Day on October 13th 2020, G-Research and Stemettes visited schools across the UK to increase the students’ STEM awareness and perception. Stemettes were joined virtually by 123 students across year 9, 10 and 11. They came from schools in: Chertsey, Leicester, Northamptonshire, Coventry and West Yorkshire. 12 women from STEM industry, academia and entrepreneurship tuned into classrooms to inspire students to think about a future in STEM. At Stemettes we love running school trips, especially when we get to take pupils out to visit real STEM environments. On Wednesday 11th July Stemettes travelled to Maidenhead where Blackberry hosted a ‘Meet the Stemettes’ panel. Girls from local schools (Furze Platt Senior School, Altwood School, and Trevelyan Middle School)  where able to meet and network with female STEM role models. 3rd March was an incredibly snowy day in London. It was also the date we’d chosen to host our special International Women’s Day ‘Meet the Stemettes’ panel event at LGIM’s offices in London. After the success of Eat.Sleep.STEM.Repeat. earlier this year, we’ve been working on the next chapter in our Outbox Journey: our Stemillions STEM clubs. Inspiring young women is one thing.
