To celebrate World Environment Day on Wednesday 5 June, QuestFriendz and Stemettes have teamed up to run a competition for children to use their STEM skills to design a river cleaning device for the SuperQuesters to clean up rubbish and other pollution in the rivers of Questland.
Open to individual children aged 4 to 11 years old, the winner will receive all four of the SuperQuesters books. While three runners-up will get a copy of SuperQuesters: The Case of the Angry Sea.
The challenge
The SuperQuesters – Lillicorn, Bea Bumble and Leo Zoom – would like to invent a machine or device to clean up the plastic and other water pollution from the rivers of Questland as part of their mission to care for the environment. But they’re struggling to come up with ideas by themselves.
They think the best people to help them are children – like them.
Lillicorn: “Can you help us with ideas for a river cleaning machine to clean up the plastic and other water pollution from the rivers of Questland?
Bea Bumble: “It could be a boat, a handheld machine for a person to use, a giant sieve or something else!”
Leo Zoom: “To help us build it, please can you label your designs to tell us how it works.”
B-bot: “Remember to think about what it is made from, how it collects the rubbish or how it cleans or removes other pollution from the water, so the residents of Questland can enjoy clean rivers this summer.”
Lillicorn: “We can’t wait to see what you come up with! And as a thank-you for helping us out, our favourite design will win a copy of the book, SuperQuesters: The Case of the Angry Sea plus a set of SuperQuesters books for your school library.”
