2020 Stemettes Outbox programme logo

This summer, our youngest Stemettes will join together daily to meet STEM roles, do STEM activities and be inspired with their peers.

Daily Timetable

9.00 – 10.00 BST: Morning Inspiration session

We’ll be joined by a STEM role model, hear from them and then complete a STEM activity based on their career and expertise.

15.00 – 16.00 BST: Optional Downtime session (Monday – Thursday)

Join a session with all Outbox streams to get fit, get baking or enjoy another social activity.

15.00 – 17.00 BST: Show’n’Tell session (Friday)

A chance to show the other Outbox attendees, Parents, Guardians and our STEM volunteers what you’ve created and learnt all week.

Don’t have your own laptop or internet connection? Don’t worry!

We’ve worked hard to ensure that young women from across the country are able to join these digital sessions, no matter what their setup is at home. If you need it, we’ll send you a device, a dongle and some lunch for the two weeks you’re on the programme.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have a friend who doesn’t have internet access or their own device, can I register on their behalf?

This is lovely. Drop a note to julia@stemettes.org and she can do their application over the phone, or in another way.

As an adult/parent, can I apply on behalf of my child or a young person that I think might benefit from this programme?

Yes, you can apply on behalf of your child or a young person. Please use the parents/guardians application form to do so.

My child is 11, which stream should they join?

Connect is 3 hours or more a day online; Juniors is 2 hours a day online. Depending on the attention span of your child and the other things you have planned for August, make a decision with them on which they’d like to join. If you attended our STEM Mode In series, Connect will be more like the Wednesday Tutorials, with Junior more like the Mondal Meal Plans.

When do applications close?

For Sprint A, applications close on July 22nd. For Sprint B, they’ll close 2 weeks later.

Will sessions run on the weekend?

No, sessions will happen on weekdays only.

What are your criteria for selection?

We’re looking for young women who will be able to make the most of the experience, but also those who wouldn’t normally be able to access opportunities like this. Due to the funders for this programme, we’ve also reserved a set of spaces for young people from the North East, East of England and Northern Ireland. Other than that, if you’re a young women or nonbinary young person, we’d love to have you!

Can I apply for both sprints?

You can, but we’d like to have as many young people benefit from this programme as possible, so we might suggest you do only one sprint when allocating places.

Can I register a group of young people for Outbox?

Yes, drop a note to julia@stemettes.org and she will send you a group form to complete instead of having to complete a separate application for each individual.
