During the call, you’ll meet a member of TeamStemette who will ask you a few questions about your motivations for joining STS. You’ll also learn more about the programme and have a chance to ask questions.
Following the call, you will then start our onboarding process. This involves a short form for more information, consent from a parent or guardian if you’re under 18, and online training (this takes around 1 hour and can be completed whenever suits you).
You will be matched via a process called Speed Matching. Speed Matching is an online event where you can speak to lots of our mentors. Every few minutes, you will meet new mentors and have a chance to ask them questions. You will score the mentors from 1 to 5 in terms of how much you would like to be matched with them. We will use these scores to pair everyone up.
If you can’t attend our Speed Matching events, that is not a problem, just let us know! We will then use your application and the information you have already provided to match you with a suitable mentor.
Yes! All our mentors have STEAM backgrounds. Our mentors come from a wide range of industries, including engineering, tech, healthcare, finance, and education. No matter who you are paired with, we hope that the programme and your mentor will give you a greater insight into different careers, increase your professional skills, and boost your confidence.

We’re looking for women and non-binary people working in STEAM to join us as mentors. No prior mentoring experience? No problem - full training is provided. Once you’ve applied, we’ll guide you through completing a DBS Check to ensure the safety of our mentees. Not based in the UK? That’s totally fine! If you’re outside the UK, we’ll work with you to make sure the necessary background checks are in place.
Our mentoring programme takes place over 4 months. Over this time period, you will be expected to spend 8 hours with your mentee. This equates to an hour every other week. You will also be invited to:
