Questions About Them

  • How did you get to where you are now?
  • Who inspires you – And why?
  • What is the best piece of advice you have been given?
  • What do you wish you had known when you started your career?
  • What challenges did you come across? And how did you overcome them (if you had any)?
  • What do you think is the key to success?
  • What are your thoughts on failure?
  • How do you maintain a positive attitude and handle stress?
  • Which of your projects do you feel have had the most impact and why?
  • What do you love outside your profession?
  • What fills you with excitement?

Questions About Their Company/Industry

  • What projects are you working on currently?
  • What is your day–to–day work routine like?
  • Where do you think your company will be in 5 years?
  • Do you work alone or is there a teamworking element involved?
  • What are development opportunities that are offered at your company?
  • Whilst working towards the position you are in or a similar position, where do you see others fail and why?
  • Which of your projects do you feel have had the most impact and why?
  • What are the best perks of working for your company or in your industry?

This isn’t an exhaustive list, and the best questions often come from you doing your research beforehand. Check out the role model’s LinkedIn and website if possible. You can also develop your questions based on what questions you want answered for your future career, so consider how the role model(s) are relevant to you!
