Meet Titi Oliyide

Chemistry Engineering

Have you heard of process safety before? Titi Oliyide is a chartered chemical engineer who is known for her expertise in process safety and her commitment to fostering diversity within the engineering sector. Her journey from academic excellence in Nigeria to professional celebration in the UK inspires engineers everywhere to make the field better and more inclusive.

Education

Titi’s academic journey began when she graduated with first-class honours from the University of Lagos, Nigeria, with her degree in Chemical Engineering. However, Titi wanted to specialise her studies even more, so she pursued a master’s degree in Advanced Chemical Engineering, focusing on Process Systems Engineering at Imperial College London.

Career

With over a decade of experience in industry, Titi has established herself as a leader with her process safety work, making sure that risks are managed in fields and systems that would otherwise have dangerous consequences. In her career, she has worked in many industries, including hydrogen, energy, and transportation. Currently, she works as a Senior Process Safety Engineer at Supercritical Solutions, where she provides technical process safety expertise for innovative hydrogen production technology. Her work is important for sustainability, as she is helping to facilitate energy transition and contributing to the UK’s net-zero plan for 2030.

Beyond her job, Titi is actively involved in promoting diversity and inclusion within engineering. She is a member of the Association for Black and Minority Ethnic Engineers (AFBE-UK), where she manages and facilitates diversity and inclusion improvement programmes for partners and workplaces.

Awards and Honours

Titi’s contributions to engineering are appreciated by many, but she has also been recognised through awards, too. They include:

  • IET Young Woman Engineer of the Year 2023: Awarded by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), this honour acknowledges her outstanding work in process safety and her efforts to promote engineering among young people.
  • Top 50 Women in Engineering 2023: Recognised by the Women’s Engineering Society (WES) during International Women in Engineering Day, this accolade celebrates her contributions to safety in engineering.

Titi: Inspiration

Titi Oliyide’s journey highlights how important it is to be dedicated and to advocate for what we believe in. Her commitment to safety, coupled with her efforts to demystify the profession and promote diversity, makes her a role model for all of us wanting to join the field.
