The Stemette Society
Join the conversation in our closed social network for young women and non-binary folks.
Want to find out all about Stemettes? We’re an award-winning social enterprise working across the UK & Ireland and beyond to inspire and support girls, young women and non-binary young people into Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths careers (known collectively as STEAM).
Engage, inform and connect the next generation of women and non-binary people into Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths (STEAM) by showcasing a diversity of people working in STEAM .
All young women & non-binary people can make informed decisions about careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths (STEAM), so that women and non-binary people can be proportionally represented in the field.
Stemettes was set up to help combat the lack of women and non-binary people in STEM in a new way…
Co-founder Anne-Marie decided to start Stemettes after hearing a keynote whilst attending the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing in 2012.
It made her reflect on her experience of being 1 of 3 girls in a class of 70 studying Maths and Computer Science at university.
After attending a ‘Spotlight on STEM’ workshop run by Business in the Community she learnt that there’s a real problem with lack of women and non-binary people in STEM and so, she decided to take a new form of action centred on being free, being fun and having food.
So we’re a team doing all we can to help. We can’t have women leaders if they’re not joining the industry or are ignorant of STEM itself. Diversity is important in any industry – and STEM especially. Diversity of thought leads to innovation.
Of attendees have increased interest in Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths after just one Stemettes event.
young people have attended events, workshops and Stemette experiences for free across the UK & Ireland.
