Case Study: Ramneek Ahluwalia

Stemette Ramneek Ahluwalia is accustomed to overcoming challenges. She has a visual impairment, which adds to the challenges she encounters daily. However, with a love of STEM from the age of 11 and a sense of determination, she’s never let anything hold her back.

“I was the only girl in my whole year who studied further maths and was part of four girls in the year who studied physics. It was very tough mentally…but I did get through it as I am sure most of you have, and can too.”

Ramneek found Stemettes online whilst she was in sixth form. The Stemette Society particularly appealed because it allowed her to get to know a variety of people and learn from them. She also wanted to “try and get some tips from people in industry and share (her) passion and love of STEM.”

“I have loved being a part of this amazing STEM community as it has brought back my passion for tech when I needed it the most. It has been a great place to gain various opportunities and network with other like-minded young females and role models.”

After having taken part in a range of programmes with Stemettes, Ramneek now regularly hosts and speaks at Stemette events. Now an engineering student at City University, she hopes to become a design engineer or a product designer shortly.

“I cannot begin to explain how amazing this society is; not just for me but also for so many other young females. The community is so supportive and I believe that this will allow young people to thrive and kickstart their journey into STEM and ensure that their voices are heard and are taken into action.”
