This International Women’s Day, Stemettes spent the day at EDF Trading with 20 young women learning about Trading and building websites.
The day kicked off with an icebreaker from EDF Trading, which taught the girls the basics of trading by having to trade fun items provided. We then went on a treasure hunt around EDF Trading offices in London and the girls visited the trading floor, where they got to see live Trading and realised it wasn’t like what they had seen in the films! Then during lunchtime, we got to meet loads of their #womeninSTEM, many of whom were Traders!
EDF Trading set the students the challenge to create a website about their favourite #womeninSTEM to celebrate International Women’s Day. The girls worked in pairs to create their websites and we had a range of women from Shakira to Hedy Lamarr, and a group even created a website about their favourite school teacher!
Judges from EDF Trading joined us late afternoon to oversee the presentations and pick their winners and runner-ups.

Impactwise – the girls gave the event an 8.63 out of 10. 100% would love to come back, 73% would love to do more coding. The girls also had an 82% improvement in the perception of STEM, 84% improvement in awareness of STEM, 75% improvement in STEM network, 79% improvement in STEM confidence, and 85% improvement in STEM knowledge.
