Five Student Stemettes Are Phoenix Bound!

It’s been a short while since we kicked off our first-ever Student to Stemette mentoring cohort as part of Deutsche Bank’s Born to Be campaign and the UK government’s Your Life campaign. In the time it’s been running we’ve matched 40 girls all over the UK to mentors at Deutsche Bank who have helped them work on strengths & weaknesses, discover new STEM career paths and given them a bit of a boost towards becoming fully fledged Big Stemettes.

In addition to the mentor meetings, we’ve run a series of ‘Student to Stemette’ webinars each featuring fantastic women in STEM cutting across industry, recruitment and academia – check them out on YouTube & Anymeeting to catch up (leave us some feedback too, please). Each has passed useful gems of career advice on topics ranging from mentoring relationships to career development to online networking – check out our Twitter images to see some of the highlights – and make sure you sign up for the rest of them.

The final detail of the scheme has been a trip to the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing in Phoenix this October. Current mentees made submissions to our panel of judges about 2 weeks ago in order to gain one of five tickets for Student Stemettes.

We’re pleased to announce the girls who have been selected:

  • Eleanor Yong
  • Kamile Matulenaite
  • Javairya Khan
  • Jasmin Evans
  • Jastina Sandhu

They’ll be leaving London on October 7th and will be liveblogging their experiences for the benefit of the cohort, and those not at the conference. Keep an eye on our @StudentStemette Twitter account and the #ghc2014 hashtag for updates from them and from us.
