Stemettes Cyber Hack @ Lookout

Stemettes teamed up with Lookout to deliver a virtual hackathon on 16 October. The theme was cybersecurity, following Ada Lovelace Day which took place on 12 October. The event was open to young women and non-binary people aged 12 to 21 and had 24 attendees.

Participants were challenged in their groups to design a product or business solution that tackled an issue relating to cybersecurity. At the end of the day, they presented their work to a group of judges from Lookout, who were so impressed with all of their ideas.

Participants were asked to give feedback at the end of the event. They rated the overall event 8.96 out of 10 and 100% would attend another Stemettes event.

  • 96% felt that their network in STEM fields improved
  • 83% felt that their knowledge of STEM improved

“I enjoyed all aspects of the hack!! Working in a team as well as having professional advice was amazing. The brief was super interesting and up-to-date too, which made it enjoyable” – Hack participant

Rating themselves on impact metrics before and after the programme, attendees showed their network in STEM fields and confidence in STEM ability increased the most.

Congratulations to the winning team, and thank you so much to everyone who took part or volunteered.
