A “Very Inspirational” Panel @ BAE Systems

On 12 February 2018 during the half-term, we headed to BAE Systems’ offices in Farnborough to host a ‘Meet the Stemettes’ panel event for young women. We were joined by a fantastic panel from across STEM:

  • Frances Demuth: Geologist, STEM Ambassador Science Centre
  • Kirsten Ward: Operational Cyber Researcher, BAE Systems
  • Alessandra Treviso: Research Engineer, NCC
  • Harriet Barr: Data Analyst, BAE Systems
  • Hannah Mitchell: Cyber Security Technical Specialist, BAE Systems
  • Mivy James: Head of Consulting, National Security BAE, Systems
  • Pam Wilson: Engineering Manager, BAE Systems
  • Mystery Man Angus Currie: Engineering Director, BAE Systems

They all introduced themselves and then answered questions from our eager audience of young women and parents. After that, we took a short break for lunch then returned to do some speed networking games and enjoy a fun Kahoot quiz on what the panel had said. It’s all covered in our roundup video:

And of course, on Twitter.

There’s also a photo gallery of what happened.

Meet the Stemettes @ BAE Systems

94% of attendees would like to come to another Stemettes event, and they gave the event an average of 8 out of 10. 97% left with an improved awareness of STEM careers available. 91% left with an improved perception of the STEM world. 87% had improved confidence in their STEM abilities and 78% left with an improved network within STEM.

“I enjoyed speaking to the role models on a one-to-one and the quiz at the end”
“It was very well planned and the structure was great! I met many new people”
“The panellists were really interesting to listen to”

Thanks very much to BAE Systems for hosting us, catering for everyone and providing their role models as panellists. We’ll be back in Farnborough soon, we’re sure. Join our mailing list to be kept up-to-date. If you’d like to host us let Event Stemette know.
