Meet the Stemettes in Aviation

On the 26th of November, the Department for Transport and Stemettes held an online panel discussion with women in aviation to increase awareness of this STEM career path.

Seven amazing aviation role models joined in the discussion from industry, entrepreneurship and academia. 2670 young women and non-binary people joined across YouTube, Twitter or Facebook.

Those who attended rated the panel 9.1 out of 10.

  • 100% are now more aware of STEM-related careers
  • 90% now see STEM in a better light
  • 88% have learned something new about STEM
  • 88% now feel more confident in their STEM abilities
  • 82% now feel more connected to peers and role models in STEM

Here’s what some of our attendees thought:

“Learning more about STEM and aviation was a lot of fun. All the panel members were amazing“

“Enjoyed the live stream via FB with mum and sister. Opened up different conversations.“

“It was a fabulous event. I have been apprehensive about pursuing a career in aviation for a while but this has inspired me to leap aviation“

Thank you to all of our panel who shared their journeys, advice, and experiences of being women in aviation. As Patricia Mawuli Porter reminded us, “Women do rule the world”.
