Stemettes proudly partnered with NHS England and NHS Digital in 2018 to bring four events to London and Leeds. The NHS hosted us for a panel and hackathon event in each city and we had over 240 girls and young women join us in total.
Meet the Stemettes @ NHS Leeds, October 27th
For our first NHS event, we kicked off the STEMtastic fun in Leeds with a panel. Our panel was formed of seven incredible women and one mystery man – all panellists were working within STEM and had different journeys and obstacles to overcome to be where they are today. Shoutout to the Thackray Museum for providing the perfect venue for all the networking fun. One young woman commented on the importance of these events as a lot of young women “don’t get to see what other options there are”. All pics from the day are on our Flickr!
Meet the Stemettes @ NHS London, November 3rd
Our next panel event with the NHS was held in London at the Department of Health and Social Care. Our panellists came from all across the STEM fields and placed a focus on careers – specifically technical and engineering roles within the NHS. One young woman who attended said that it was good to hear “that it’s okay to be unsure” of your passion/what path you want to take. Head over to Flickr to see more pics from the day!
Stemettes Hack London @ NHS, November 10th
The Department of Health and Social Care hosted us once again, this time for our first hackathon with the NHS. Almost 90 girls and young women came along for some coding fun creating apps themed around mental health. The girls valued the importance of mental health awareness and were brimming with brilliant ideas that left the judges stunned. All the fun was captured over on our Flickr!
Stemettes Hack Leeds @ NHS, November 24th
It was back up to Leeds for our final NHS event: a hackathon held at NHS Digital’s offices. Once again, the girls and young women were set the task of creating apps themed around mental health and they created some incredible apps. A young lady mentioned that she enjoyed coding and that “it was extremely fun to use HTML and will be using it in the future”. Flickr has all the pics from this wonderful event!
A HUGE thank you to the NHS for partnering with us for all four events – we had a STEMazing time and so did all of our attendees!
