1. Introduction
1.1 Stemettes and Stemette Futures (“Stemettes”, “we”, “us” or “our”) is committed to ensuring the health and safety of our staff and anyone affected by our business activities, and to providing a safe and suitable environment for all those attending our premises.
The policy sets out our arrangements for ensuring we meet our health and safety obligations to staff and anyone visiting our premises or affected by our work, establishes a framework to support paid and unpaid staff in their practices, and clarifies the organisation’s expectations. This policy does not form part of any employee’s contract of employment and Stemettes may amend it at any time. Stemettes will continue to review this policy to ensure it is achieving its aims.
2. Responsibilities
2.1 All staff (paid or unpaid) have a responsibility to follow the guidance laid out in this policy and related policies.
2.2 All staff share responsibility for achieving safe working conditions. You must take care of your own health and safety and that of others, observe applicable safety rules and follow instructions for the safe use of equipment.
2.3 Any health and safety concerns should be immediately reported to Yasmin Lodhi via email to yasmin@stemettefutures.org with the subject Urgent: Health and Safety Concern.
2.4 All staff must co-operate on health and safety matters, including the investigation of any incident.
3. Information and Consultation
3.1 We will inform and consult directly with all staff regarding health and safety matters.
4. Accidents and First Aid
4.1 Details of first aid facilities and the names of trained first aiders are displayed upon onboarding and on notice boards in the workplace (or shared at the start of an event, where a Stemettes event is externally hosted).
4.2 All accidents and injuries at work, however minor, should be reported to Yasmin Lodhi via email to yasmin@stemettefutures.org with the subject Urgent: Health and Safety Incident.
5. Fire Safety
5.1 All staff should familiarise themselves with the fire safety instructions, which are displayed on notice boards and near fire exits in the workplace (or in the location where a Stemettes event is being externally hosted).
5.2 If you hear a fire alarm, leave the building immediately by the nearest fire exit and go to the fire assembly point shown on the fire safety notices.
5.3 Fire drills will be held regularly and must be taken seriously. We also carry out regular fire risk assessments and regular checks of fire extinguishers, fire alarms, escape routes, and emergency lighting.
6. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Risk Assessments
6.1 We carry out general workplace and event venue risk assessments periodically. The purpose is to assess the risks to health and safety of employees, visitors, and other third parties as a result of our activities, and to identify any measures that need to be taken to control those risks. Stemettes will systematically monitor and evaluate this policy on a regular basis.
7. Monitoring and Review
7.1 The Policy will be constantly reviewed by the management committee to ensure that no member of the group is put to a disadvantage either, directly or indirectly. This monitoring will apply to the practices of staff and volunteers, the member organisation, the composition of the Committees, and the provision of services.
It is the responsibility of every individual to ensure the practical application of this policy.
This policy will be reviewed on a regular basis.
