DfT ‘She’s Sheila Scott’ Programme

Are you a primary school teacher looking for STEAM inspiration for your students? Look no further!

Developed in partnership with the Department for Transport, ‘She’s Sheila Scott’ is our exciting new programme which will take your pupils’ knowledge of aviation and STEAM careers to new heights!

This two-part programme will start in Autumn Term 2023 and consists of:

  • A fun, in-school coding workshop delivered by Stemettes
  • A STEM Club in a Box – 10 weeks’ worth of STEAM inspiration and activities

Autumn Term 2023: In-School Workshop

To kick off the programme, Team Stemette will visit your school for a half-day workshop based on Aviation and STEAM careers.

STEM Goals Autumn Workshop Information
Who can take part?Up to 30 students aged 9-11 years old. N.B. At least half of the students must be girls or non-binary students.
What will happen?Pupils will learn about careers in aviation, hear from role models and ask questions. Then, a fun coding activity to create a Scratch project based on what they have learned.
How will this benefit my pupils?This activity aims to support and enhance the teaching of Computing, Science, and careers education in Key Stage 2, while also inspiring pupils to pursue an interest in STEM.
What do I need?A computer room or laptop for children to use. Laptops can be provided, if necessary.
What dates is this available?Once you’ve applied, we’ll be in touch to arrange the workshop at a time that suits you, around your school timetable.
STEM Club In A Box

We’ll send you all the resources you need to run a school club! Students will learn about 10 role models in STEAM and collect prizes along the way. Resources for 10 students will be provided, but activities can be replicated for more.

What do activities look like?
A Meal Plan, like one you will receive, is pictured left.

Who can take part?
10 girls / non-binary students aged 7-11.

What is the aim?
Increasing awareness of STEM careers and confidence in students’ own STEM abilities.

What will I receive?
20 STEAM activities, Teacher notes with National Curriculum links, session plans, slides, handouts, resources and equipment.

How much does it cost?
The boxes are fully funded by DfT, which makes it free for you.
