We’ve heard the term ‘backups’ a million times, but what does it mean to actually back up your data?
Having a backup of your data means having another copy of the data safely stored in case of loss or damage.
There are different types of backups:
- Local backups. This is where data is backed up onto a physical device like a memory stick, floppy disk, CD or hard drive.
- Cloud backups. Cloud backups are where your information is kept safely in a remote server that you are able to access. An example of cloud backup is iCloud for Apple devices.

Nowadays, most people prefer to use cloud backups because it means that your data isn’t lost if you lose the physical device where you keep your data. However, it’s always a good idea to do both for extra safety measures!
